Fortress of Amberd (11-13 century), near Mt. Aragats, Armenia
Amberd fortress and castle was founded in the 7th century. It stands at 2.300 meters above sea level. A church was built in 1026 inside the fortress. In 13th century Amberd was conquered by Mongols and set on fire, but still has well-preserved parts.
